DVD review: Bel Ami

What is it? Robert Pattinson stars in a big-screen adaptation of Guy De Maupassant’s novel, as a scoundrel who exploits the women of 1885 Paris – including Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas – to further his ambitions.

What we said: “Although Pattinson does a lot of leering, his stilted presence feels like an old-time performance next to the more natural Ricci. At one point he pulls a face that is supposed to suggest a fox in a chicken coop, but is closer to Jim Dale accidentally locked in the nurses’ quarters in Carry On Again Doctor.”

Extras: Cast interviews and behind-the-scenes featurette.
