Academy Award nominations 2020: when the Oscars nominees are announced, and where to watch live in the UK

All 8,469 members of the Academy were allowed to cast their votes from January 2 to January 7 for all 24 Oscars categories from Best Picture to the newly named Best International Feature Film.

The announcement will come just under one month ahead of the awards which were moved to February 9, rather than their traditional late February date.

When are the nominations announced?

The nominations for the 2020 Oscars will be announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles on January 13 at 13.18pm GMT.

The awards will be presented by actor John Cho and actress Issa Rae.

Which films are expected to win big?

The Golden Globes gave an indicator of potential winners earlier this month with Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Sam Mendes' 1917 both enjoying big nights.

Netflix's The Irishman failed to scoop any awards at the ceremony, but Al Pacino and Joe Pesci will both be fancied in the Best Supporting Actor category, while the film itself should find itself among the Best Picture nominees.

Greta Gerwig's Little Women was criminally overlooked at the Golden Globes, but may fare better at the Academy Awards, with Saoirse Ronan likely in line to receive her fourth nomination for an Academy Award.

Korean Palme d'Or winner Parasite could make history as the first foreign film to win Best Picture.

Marriage Story also stands an outside chance of claiming the Best Picture award with Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver both likely to receive nods for Best Actress and Best Actor respectively.

Joaquin Phoenix will be a front runner for the Best Actor role for his turn as the eponymous villain in Joker, while Renee Zellweger will be looking to add to her Golden Globe win for her turn as Judy Garland in Judy.
