FCT chase fourth ENDA award

THREE times Evening News Drama Award Winners Forth Children’s Theatre (FCT) bring a taste of the Caribbean to this year’s ENDAs.

For their 2012 Fringe offering the youngsters have chosen the musical Once On This Island.

Set in the French Antilles in the Caribbean Sea, Once On This Island combines elements of Romeo and Juliet intertwined with the fairytale of the Little Mermaid.

Director Claire Stewart says, “I chose the piece after hearing the sound track several years ago and falling in love with it.

“I have almost staged it several times before but it has never felt quite the right time. This year, the company is at an exciting point where several of our younger members are starting to grow and evolve.  This piece has just the right balance of challenge that I feel allows them to flourish and develop as performers.”

FCT’s production boasts a cast of 38, ranging from ten to 17 years old, creating a range of imaginative characters.

Company chairman, Mark Gorman adds, ”FCT is always changing as our young cast come and go, often to begin careers in the professional theatre, but it is clear that this year’s offering is particularly strong with a show that’s always extremely popular no matter where it’s performed.”

Once On this Island, Inverleith Church Hall, Ferry Road, August 3-11, 7.30pm (Saturday matinees 2.30pm), £8-£12, www.edfringe.com
