Exhibition to showcase Glencoe’s role in Skyfall

Key scenes in the most successful film in the Bond franchise – including the dramatic finale – were filmed on land owned and cared for by conservation charity the National Trust for Scotland.

The trust’s Glencoe Visitor Centre will be running the exhibition until the end of March next year, ensuring visitors to the area can follow in actor Daniel Craig’s foosteps and to taop into the growing ‘film tourism’ market.

Visitors will learn more about the locations and how CGI was used to create buildings that don’t really exist – at least not in Glencoe.

Trust Ranger Rachel McKerral, who ‘starred’ as M in the Trust’s own remake of the famous publicity shot featuring Daniel Craig, Dame Judi Dench and the iconic vintage Aston Martin in Glen Etive, said: “Glencoe’s starring role in Skyfall has definitely helped attract new visitors to the area and it’s brilliant to be able to give them a taste of what went on behind the scenes.

“It’s a really fun display and visitors love being able to follow in Bond’s footsteps.”

‘Set jetting’ holidays

‘Set jetting’ holidays, where tourists tick off key movie locations are on the increase.

Just last week VisitScotland reported the story of Jan Wong and Angela Lam from Toronto who had come to Scotland specifically to visit places they’d seen in the movies. Naturally, Glencoe was one of their highlights.

Mike Cantlay, Chairman of VisitScotland, said: “Scotland continues to prove that it really is the ultimate film set.”

The exhibition is open daily until 31 October and then Thursday until Sunday from 1 November to 31 March 2014.
