Edinburgh gets pampered at Spa in the City

This week sees the fifth anniversary of Edinburgh’s Spa in the City event.

To mark the occasion Spa in the City is celebrating vintage beauty for the next month with a vintage-themed weekend on 26th and 27th May in St Andrew’s Square and the Rose Street shopping precinct.

Spa in the City first began in 2008 as an initiative set up by Essential Edinburgh, whose aim is to ensure the city centre excels in all aspects of business and leisure.

Each year the weekend, offering free activities and beauty treatments, encourages more visitors to the city as well as increased industry for the retailers involved.

Essential Scotland said: “With a number of the top retailers involved each year, this free beauty and wellbeing event has proved incredibly popular with women and men throughout Scotland, with hundreds of visitors passing through the gates each year.”

Spa in the City offers the ideal opportunity to showcase Edinburgh’s beauty and fashion industry and they say: “the vintage glamour theme will bring a fresh and exciting element to this year’s weekend.”

Harvey Nichols will offer 1930s style makeovers and Regis, from Jenner’s, will be styling retro hair.

As well as this, a variety of retailers, such as Superdrug and Lush, will offer free massages and facials.

Andy Neal, chief executive of Essential Edinburgh, said: “We’re very much looking forward to welcoming guests to Edinburgh over our Spa weekend and to showcasing the best of the city’s beauty operators at the event.”
