1952

John Cobb attempted to break the world water-speed record on Loch Ness, which ended in tragedy after his boat crashed.

During the race, Cobb became the first person to break the 200 miles per hour barrier, but was killed shortly after.

Some believers of the Loch Ness Monster claimed the crash was caused by Nessie being woken.

Nearby, there now stands a memorial to him.
