Danny MacAskill’s death defying ride on Skye

For the first time in one of his films Danny climbs aboard a mountain bike and returns to his native home of the Isle of Skye in Scotland, taking on one of his biggest challenges to date.

The 28-year-old’s parents feared that he might kill himself with the 7.5 mile ride over the Cuillin mountain range.

But the fearless cyclist even took time out to pull stunts on top of infamous Inaccessible Pinnacle at the summit of Sgurr Dearg.

He then dismantled his £7,500 trial bike and abseiled 150ft off the craggy outcrop for the new online video.

The Cuillin Ridgeline is known as the greatest mountaineering challenge in the British Isles.

MacAskill shared the video on his Facebook page on Thursday, although it had not been expected until a day later.

He wrote: “So proud to finally be able to share this!! Big thanks to Cut Media, Five Ten, ENVE Composites, Santa Cruz Bicycles, VisitScotland and Skye Adventure For making this film possible!”

Danny and his film crew spent ten days on the shoot, enduring long treks and tricky terrain, all in a bid to capture Danny performing in this most thrilling and challenging environment.

A documentary is due to screen on BBC One about the challenge. It’s called ‘Danny MacAskill - Riding the Ridge’ and set to screen on October 10.

The cyclist first shot to fame when a display of bike handling skills in Edinburgh went viral online.

More recently he has used his abilities to promote the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a series of bike tricks filmed at the city’s landmarks.

Another of his videos is “Way Back Home”, released on 16 November 2010, produced by Red Bull Media House, which saw MacAskill cycle around Scotland including Edinburgh Castle, North Berwick, wartime bunkers on the island of Inchgarvie beneath the Forth Bridge and the Cruachan Dam in the Scottish Highlands.

He has gone on to film stunt videos around the world, in Taiwan and most recently Argentina.
