Councillor wants home town honour for Gerry Rafferty

BAKER Street singer Gerry Rafferty could have a street named after him in his home town.

Rafferty, from Paisley, Renfrewshire, died on 4 January this year after a long illness and is best remembered for hits such as Stuck In The Middle With You.

Now, Paisley Lib Dem councillor Mike Dillon wants to name a street in a housing development in Gockston, in the north end of the town, Gerry Rafferty Drive.

Mr Dillon, who has owned record shops in the town for 25 years, said: “It’s only right that the town, which featured in many of Gerry’s early songs, should pay tribute to the man and his outstanding talent.”

Rafferty met Billy Connolly in the town when he was playing a folk gig with his band, The Humblebums.
