Controversial firm BAM chosen to build Dundee V&A
DUNDEE’S controversial V&A museum has taken a major step forward – despite furious protests over the firm chosen to build the attraction.
Edinburgh-based BAM Construction has won the deal to take on the international design complex, the centrepiece of the city’s £1bn waterfront regeneration. The company was only appointed after city councillors rejected claims that it has a history of blacklisting union members.
BAM had “categorically” denied taking part in such practices in Scotland, and will enter into formal talks with the council to agree a fixed priced tender for the work, which is expected to begin within the next few months. The first Victoria and Albert museum outside London is not due to be completed until 2017.
