Frontman Simon Neil said the band was desperate to get the Aberdeen-born singer to appear on their sixth album, Opposites, which was released earlier this year.

However, the former Eurythmics frontwoman was not available at the time they were recording the album – and Neil feared she may not have heard of his band.

He said: “I would like Annie Lennox to appear on a Biffy record. We tried to get her on this record but she was not free. I have a feeling she was just sitting at home going ‘Who? Why would I do that?’

“She has a world to save to be fair, what a woman.”

The Ayrshire rockers are mid-way through this year’s festival circuit, which will culminate in a headlining appearance at Reading and Leeds.

Opposites topped the UK
albums chart in February – the first time Biffy Clyro sold that many albums.

The group received an award for best british band at this year’s NME Awards.

The rockers have supported a number of the world’s biggest bands, including Metallica and the Foo Fighters.
