Audience will step into newspapers

THE National Theatre of Scotland is to stage a new production inspired by the real-life events affecting newspaper journalism.

Enquirer is based on interviews with leading journalists, including The Scotsman editor, John McLellan, and will be staged on an empty floor of Pacific Quay, where BBC Scotland has its headquarters.

The production runs from 26 April to 12 May before moving to London later in the year.

The creators spoke to reporters, editors, photographers, web designers, retailers and readers, turning 60 hours of transcribed recordings into one hour of theatre, in an attempt to present a complete picture of the state of the industry.

In order to fully experience the production, the audience will be invited to move around the stage, which will be dressed as a working newspaper office featuring the actors.
