AN ANTIQUES dealer who bought a treasure trove of old photographs documenting Scottish railways in the 40s and 50s has called the discovery a “great find”.
Joe Richards, 62, purchased an old leather suitcase at a car boot sale in Errol, Perthshire containing thousands of 35 mm negatives.
The collection, which has already attracted nationwide interest from railway enthusiasts, includes around 500 photos of railway scenes and accidents from around Scotland.
Richards, who has already started selling negatives on auction site eBay, said: “It was quite a surprise really, but a great find.
“I found this old leather suitcase and it was crammed with folded up strips of paper which had old 35mm negatives inside.
“There must be thousands all together but a lot of them are train related.
“There are also ones of motorcycling racing at Kirkcaldy, but I am just starting to go through them.
“I paid £50 for the case, which my friends told me was too much, but I’m always willing to take a chance, and this has really paid off.”
