Chopin's Second Piano Concerto, even when composed in 1829, was written in a slightly dated style, with the pianist centre-stage, supported rather than partnered by the orchestra (here the excellent Staatskapelle Dresden under Fabio Luisi). Lise De La Salle makes the most of the chance to shine in the solo "ballades", with a rock-solid technique underpinning her performance.
