Aberdeen car club first to trial clean fuel cars

A SCOTTISH car club is to be the first in the world to trial hydrogen fuel cell cars.

The South Korean car giant Hyundai is loaning the Aberdeen-based Commonwheels Car Club two of its revolutionary fuel cell vehicles in the run-up to the All-Energy conference, the annual renewables showcase in the city, which begins at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on 23 May.

The two cars, powered by hydrogen, emit only water vapour, and clean fuel firm ITM Power is providing a mobile hydrogen refuelling station.

The loan of the green-powered SUVs was arranged by Aberdeen City Council.

Valerie Watts, the authority’s chief executive, said: “This is a major coup for Aberdeen and testament to the efforts of the enterprise, planning and infrastructure officers involved.”
