70,000 visitors to Mary, Queen of Scots exhibition

TENS of thousands of visitors have flocked to the National Museum of Scotland’s major exhibition on the life of Mary, Queen of Scots.

Over 70,000 visitors have taken in the exhibition of major pieces from across the UK and Europe since its opening in June.

The museum stands on the site where Mary’s husband Lord Darnley was killed, and a 16th-century depiction of the Chambers Street site is included in the display.

The earliest surviving letter written by Mary, a selection of prized jewellery worn by the monarch, and her execution warrant signed by Elizabeth I are also featured in the exhibition.

Mary, Queen of Scots closes on Sunday, following a discussion of depictions of Mary in art, and of the new computer-generated images of Mary, Queen of Scots revealed in the exhibition.
