Detectives in Tayside are appealing for information after a man attempted to rob a 14-year-old girl in Monifieth on Wednesday night.

The incident took place at around 9pm, close to the Nisa store on Ferry Road, Monifieth.

The young girl was struck from behind and left with minor injuries.

The suspect is described as being a tall man, wearing a black hooded jacket.

It is believed that he ran away in the direction of central Monifieth.

Detective Constable Esther Bigham, from Tayside CID, said: “This was an extremely distressing situation for the girl involved and we can only be thankful that she was not more seriously injured.

“We’re asking for anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious to please come forward and assist our investigation.”
