The 41-year-old’s vehicle overturned around 11pm yesterday, with no other vehicle involved. He was named locally as Bruce Cormack.
The A9 was closed, forcing Dingwall-bound referendum ballot boxesto take a lengthy detour via Melvich on the north coast, which delayed the result of the Highland count by several hours.

Hide AdThis led to the official Scotland-wide referendum result being delayed till after 8am.
A police spokesman said: “Sadly, as a result of the collision, police can confirm a 41-year-old man who was driving the vehicle has died.
“His next of kin have been informed of the matter.”
