Whisky and Oysters may not be an obvious pairing however the hopes to snap the Scotch Malt Whisky Society two together in the minds of dram drinkers as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.

The Society has opened its doors this October for the milestone, which also coincides with the UK’s native oyster season, and are offering expertly matched whisky and oyster pairings at its two venues in 28 Queen Street in the New Town and The Vaults, Leith,

Visitors will be able to sample platters of three oysters carefully paired with three of the Society’s rare single cask, single malt whiskies for £12 per platter until Sunday 3rd November.

Visitors can explore the Society’s venues, normally only open to Society members, and sample matched oyster and whisky pairings to discover how the complex flavours of the Society’s impressive array of whiskies can combine with the characteristics of different varieties of oysters.

The Society will also be hosting a special pearl masterclass event and dinner at The Vaults on Friday 25th October, with a limited number of 10 tickets available to non members. The pearl masterclass will be hosted by Bettina Boerner, a pearl expert from London, who will be flying into Edinburgh to dive deep into the world of pearls.

The evening will include a tasting of three matched whisky and oyster pairings, plus a 3-course dinner and the chance to win a unique piece of pearl jewellery created by Bettina Boerner worth morethan £700. Tickets for this event cost £89 for non members and are available at smws.co.uk/pearlmasterclass

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society was established in 1983 and celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. A members-only whisky club and bottler, with 26,000 members, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has private members rooms in Edinburgh and London, plus branches in 19 countries worldwide.
