SCOTTISH actor Peter Capaldi has been pictured taking part in his first full day of filming as the new Doctor Who.

Capaldi, best known to this point for his portrayal of foul-mouthed Scottish spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It, is pictured alongside Jenna Coleman, who plays Clara Oswald in the show.

Capaldi can be seen wearing the costume of the Doctor’s previous incarnation Matt Smith.

The Glaswegian, an Oscar winner for his 1995 short film Franz Kafka’s It’s a Wonderful Life, also revealed that he dislocated his thumb on the set of The Musketeers after becoming tangled in his co-star’s dress.

Capaldi plays Cardinal Richelieu in the BBC One adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas stories.
