Three elderly people targeted after a woman breaks into sheltered accommodation in Dundee

An investigation is underway following two robberies and an attempted robbery at a sheltered accommodation complex in Kinghorne Road, Dundee on Wednesday, February, 17, 2021.

Around 3pm on Wednesday, a 77-year-old male resident found a woman in his home.

The woman attempted to steal two wallets but the man intervened to prevent her. She then assaulted him before making off empty handed. He did not require medical treatment but has been left upset by the incident.

A further incident occurred when the female suspect forced her way into another resident’s room and stole his wallet.

The 65-year-old man was uninjured but has been left badly shaken by the incident.

Officers believe this woman is also responsible for a third incident at the premises when she forced her way into the room of a 75-year-old woman and stole her purse and some cash.

The woman was uninjured but very distressed.

Officers believe all three incidents happened on Wednesday afternoon and are appealing for any information on the female suspect.

The suspect is white, in her late 20s to early 30s, with a thin build and gaunt appearance. She is around 5ft 8in tell with dark hair which was tied in a bun.

She was wearing a shiny black jacket and dark coloured jeans.

She also has the left side of her lip pierced and is missing a tooth. She may also have been carrying or wearing a cream coloured tammy hat.

Officers will be reviewing CCTV footage from in and around the area for any additional information which could assist the investigation.

Additional officers will be on patrol to provide reassurance to members of the public. Anyone with information or concerns can approach these officers.

Sergeant Christopher Grieve said: “I’m sure that someone knows who this woman is and I am appealing to them to get in touch. These elderly people have been targeted in their homes, a place where they should feel safe.

"If you know who this woman is or if you have any information, no matter how insignificant it seems, please pass it on.

"I would also like to ask motorists with dash cams who were in the area yesterday afternoon to check their footage, it’s possible you have captured of an image the woman responsible for these crimes.”
