Radar weekly: The latest from the Scottish music scene

Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt

Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt

In this week’s new music round-up: Nina Nesbitt announces new material, videos and gigs; top 10 dominated by Scots acts; SAMAs voting opens; line-up news from RockNess and Doune the Rabbit Hole; plus new music from Chvrches, Kid Canaveral and Washington Irving, as well as the gig picks.

Nina Nesbitt reveals EP plans

Fast-rising Edinburgh singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt (pictured) has announced that she is releasing a four-track EP titled ‘Stay Out’ on April 8 via Island Records. The 18-year-old has released a video for the title track, and she’ll be posting three more videos for the rest of the EP.

She has also announced two dates for March, in her hometown and London:

12 Mar: London, Islington Assembly Hall

16 Mar: Edinburgh, Liquid Room

Chart success for Scots acts

It was a good week for Scottish artists at the commercial end of the musical spectrum. Following Biffy Clyro‘s number one album feat last week, Frightened Rabbit‘s Pedestrian Verse entered the chart at a career high No. 9. This meant that there were no fewer than four Scottish acts in the top 10 alone, including Emeli Sandé (4) and Calvin Harris (10).

Voting for SAMAs open

The rest of the nominees for the Scottish Alternative Music Awards have been revealed, and voting is now open. You can cast your votes for the seven categories on the SAMAs website (http://officialsama.co.uk/vote/), and the winners will be announced at the ceremony at Glasgow’s Garage venue on March 8. The full list of nominees are as follows:
