OLLY Murs made a surprise appearance in Edinburgh today as he topped the bill at the capital’s main music industry bash.

His set at the capital’s Usher Hall rounded off the annual Radio Forth Awards, which featured a string of big-name acts whose part in the event had been kept under wraps.

Murs, who shot to fame when he was runner-up in X Factor three years ago, played three songs for the 2500-capacity crowd.

None of the ticketholders had advance notice of who was appearing at the event, which also featured special acoustic sets from rockers The View and The Stereophonics.

Murs was named the station’s “artist of the year” while the Stereophonics picked up the iconic act award.

The event’s climax also featured a sneak preview of the musical Dirty Dancing, the big festive season show at the Edinburgh Playhouse.

Sir Chris Hoy sent in a video message as he was unable to make the event, despite being honoured for sports contribution of the year.

Rising stars Amelia Lily and Lawson also appeared at the sold-out event.
