Album review: Ceilidh Minogue

CEILIDH MINOGUE There Y'Are Now *** The Music Kitchen MKCD073, £10.99

You can tell by their name that this is not a po-faced band. The tracks are all toe-tappers, expertly led by Gregor Lowrey's accordion and Gavin Marwick's fiddle, and this classic piano/drums quartet is expanded by a guitar, banjo and a horn section, so by the finale – in the percussively driven 'The Stripper' – they sound like a Scottish Bottine Souriante. For the traditionalists there are a Barn Dance, a Circassian Circle, a Two Step and a Gay Gordon's, so they can overlook the Gaelic Waltzes from Shetland.
