GLASGOW Film Festival may have missed out on an appearance from Scarlett Johansson due to the clash between the Academy Awards in Hollywood and the closing night event at the GFT cinema, but Jonathan Glazer, director of her film Under the Skin, will be there to unveil their new film, set, and partly shot, in the city.

Also confirmed for the gala closing event is one of Johansson’s co-stars, Scots actor Paul Brannigan, who won a role as one of the victims of her alien femme fatale in Under the Skin just months after his film debut in The Angels’ Share.

Scottish film director David Mackenzie will be in his home city to unveil prison drama Starred Up, which features one of the British film scene’s rising stars, Jack O’Connell.

Turner Prize-winning artist Douglas Gordon, a graduate of Glasgow School of Art, will appear at French fashion designer Agnes B’s event to unveil her first film, My Name is Hmm, in which he stars with actress Lou-Lélia Demerliac, who will also be attending.

Magician and actor Ricky Jay will be at the UK premiere of his documentary about his life inside the world of magic, while Swiss director Thomas Imbach unveils his new biopic of Mary Queen of Scots.

Singer-songwriter King Creosote will be at Glasgow School of Art as footage drawn from the Scottish Screen Archive is re-presented to audiences.
