A SURPRISE arrival at a West Lothian zoo has been given an unusual name to reflect the weather.
Named after Wet Wet Wet frontman Marti Pellow following recent heavy rain, baby reindeer, Marty, is the star attraction at West Calder's Five Sisters Zoo.
Proud parents, three-year-old Prancer and mum Dancer, two, are keeping a close eye on their new arrival, who was born last Monday. Marty is the first reindeer to be born at the zoo.
The zoo's manager Steven Dickie said: "A visitor actually spotted the mother giving birth.
"Reindeer normally calf between May and June so it was a bit of a surprise.
"Marty's an interesting name and with the wet weather we've been having, it ties in."
Keepers will monitor baby Marty's progress over coming weeks and hope to get used to human interaction so he can help pull Santa's sleigh this Christmas.
