PARENTS are being invited to play a vital role in the education of pupils across West Lothian.
The local council is looking for parents to join a committee which considers appeals against the refusal of school placing requests or against exclusion from schools.

The group meets around twice a month, with volunteers selected from a pool of members.

A spokesperson said: "Choosing a school is very important for parents and their children. When places cannot be granted at the chosen school, the parent has the right of appeal.

"It is important that the committee has a balanced membership and parent members have an important role to play and bring a perspective, which is different to that of the other two types of members.

"We are looking to recruit parents of children of school age. The only criteria for applying is that the person must be a parent of a child of school age in education at a West Lothian school."
