COUNCILLORS in West Lothian have said they will be arranging meetings with Halifax Bank of Scotland to discuss the latest job losses.
The Scottish banking giant revealed on Wednesday that it was planning to cut 400 jobs as part of an overhaul of its mortgage services and IT division. This comes on top of the 650 jobs being lost in its business banking divisions, announced earlier this year.

HBoS has said it cannot yet say where the jobs will be lost, although union leaders have said it is expected up to 100 workers in Livingston may be affected. Martyn Day, the council's development and transport leader, said: "It is always disappointing to hear about job losses in West Lothian. We understand that Livingston will be affected by HBoS plans to cut around 400 jobs in the UK.

"We have not yet received notification of local redundancies. We will be seeking a meeting with HBoS to discuss their plans and to see what assistance, support and advice we can offer to local employees."

The latest plans by the Edinburgh-based bank will see it close its TMB Mortgage brand to new businesses, and streamline its Intelligent Finance arm.
