South-west braced for flooding

BANDS of heavy rain drenched much of England and Wales yesterday, as the Met Office warned that further downpours could lead to more flooding.
The Environment Agency issued 68 flood warnings. South-west England was the worst- affected area, with 22 warnings.
Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire found itself at risk again as the river Avon overflowed following five days of rain.
Stuart Brooks, a Met Office forecaster from Aberdeen, said up to an inch of rain was also expected last night in south-west Scotland. "We are looking at some high rainfall in places like Stranraer, Islay and Campbeltown."
Two flood watches were in place, one for the rivers Teith, Allan and Forth in Stirlingshire and one for rivers in Dumfries and Galloway.
