Published Date: 12 May 2008
CHERIE Blair revealed today how her husband made public the fact she had lost the baby she was carrying in order not to cause a panic over Iraq.
In her autobiography, serialised in The Times and The Sun, she describes how Tony Blair and press chief Alastair Campbell insisted the press were informed almost immediately in 2002.

She said Mr Blair had feared that if they had cancelled a holiday without explanation, it could have triggered false speculation that an invasion of Iraq was imminent.

After Mrs Blair told her husband the hospital scan had found that the baby was dead, he broke the news to the rest of the family, before informing Mr Campbell.

Shortly afterwards Mr Blair and Mr Campbell rang back to say the best thing was to tell the press.

"I couldn't believe it," she wrote. "I was bleeding, and they were talking about what was going to be the line to the press. I put down the receiver and lay there staring at the ceiling as the pain began to grip."

Perhaps just confirmation that you really were / are a mere object in his game - with an already financial valuation allotted - for as and when required!

Smiley man - really is a sham it seems!

I dunno why folk are surprised or shocked etc.
Anyone, and I mean anyone and everyone, who becomes a politician of any sort, has only their own self interest and need for power at heart. Be under NO illusions that people enter politics to "help people", ALL of them have dark souls with only their own self interests at the centre of all their actions amd motivations. If they truly wanted to "help people", there are any number of real and concrete ways to do this. They smile and lie and connive and plan, and from local right up to the international level, they see us,(the ordinary people), as simply ways of acheiving their goals, they will tell us anything or nothing, in order to retain "POWER"......

Simple really..........

scunnering though isn't it ?

All these pointless tubes, such as Cherie 'famous for being Tony's wife' Blair, John 'I'm bulimic but i forget to make myself sick' Prescott and Lord 'knives are out' Levy are unreal.

For years they sit with their snouts in the gravy train, getting all the perks of cheap flats in Bristol, the prestige of furthering your career as a 'human rights lawyer' by being with the PM, mega grocery expenses and everything else that comes with being a greedy, idle Govt hanger on.

But yet, when they have a book to plug, they start to bleat about hard it was and how it wasn't all rosy. Firstly, we don't care. Secondly, why didn't you do something about it when you had the bloody chance? and not leave it until you wanted to shift a few copies of your self loving books.

Rant over.

What a disgusting little man, but the wife doesn't come across as anything other than a headline grabber to sell her book. They deserve each other by the sound of it.

Remember when Blair was first PM , the bitch came to Edinburgh and said to someone " do'nt you know who I am " ??
What puzzles me is why this is being made public now ? What are they deflecting attention away from ??

The Blairs, as I expect along with others are a good matching pair = absolutely made for each other - but not for or to anyone else!

It's absolutely amazing how these 'alleged' International Business Organisations have fallen for his mere skin deep sincerity - could it be the 'religious angle' - probably nothing more than a part of his Game!

Also, the wording of this article does not indicate what the headline says.

Maybe before forming any opinion we should read a transcript of her statement.

Would all the 'slimy', 'scum' 'disgusting', etc. commenters please give an indication of what age they are?

The man was Prime Minister of Britain and the time his wife is referring to was one where speculation about Iraq's capabilities was rife. When she lost the baby, the Blair's were about to go on holiday.

So let's say that, because of losing the baby the Blairs decided to cancel the holiday and say nothing. Can you imagine the red tops' headlines? 'Blairs Cancel Holidays - What Are They Not Telling Us?' or 'Blair Holiday Shocka! Iraq Set To Attack?'

I appreciate the 'I hate Blair' crowd's opinion of him and, on some aspects of it, I agree but for goodness sake can we have a little more thought than the rabid nonsense posted above?

#18 Ah, you've made the mistake of posting a reasoned, coherent comment which tries to take an even-handed view of all sides of the story. I'm afraid that won't go down at all well with the dribbling half-brains who populate this place.

Did the public already know that she was pregnant?

I have checked it out.

The pregnancy had not been announced.

They were not going to cancel the holiday, merely delay it for a week.
