Spies abused their powers, says PM

Spies have abused their powers, the Prime Minister admitted yesterday.

David Cameron said the government would address the misuse of agents’ practices, which can include bugging, following and eavesdropping on their targets.

He told MPs: “There have, regrettably, been breaches and errors in the use of these powers.”

The revelation came in a written Commons statement outlining annual reports from three commissioners charged with ensuring the proper use of wide-ranging powers.

The watchdogs are responsible for monitoring powers including surveillance.
