THE Olympic torch took a trip on board a punt in the university town of Cambridge yesterday.

Hundreds of people braved the rain as they lined the banks and bridges of the River Cam to catch a glimpse of the flame on its way to the London Games.

Cambridge local Edward Roberts, 26, held the golden torch aloft as he floated past historic St John’s College, the ornate Bridge of Sighs and verdant weeping willows.

Mr Roberts was selected to carry the flame yesterday for his volunteering and community work.
