Mitsubishi to create 100 jobs in capital
Japanese giant Mitsubishi has confirmed that it is to create 100 jobs in Edinburgh at a plant that will develop a new type of generator for wind turbines.
The firm said in 2010 that it was to invest £100 million in an engineering facility in the city to carry out research into offshore wind turbine technology. At the time, Mitsubishi said up to 200 jobs could be created.
Yesterday’s announcement was made as Prime Minister David Cameron began an official visit to Japan.
Mr Cameron said that Mitsubishi’s decision was “a huge boost” to the Scottish economy and a vote of confidence in the UK’s research and development sector.
He said: “It’s fantastic news that it will create over 100 jobs in Scotland, with the potential for many more in the supply chain.”
