SCOTS Olympic hopeful Eilish McColgan was hit by a car during a training run yesterday.
The 21-year-old steeplechaser, daughter of the track legend Liz, was clipped on the legs and landed on the bonnet of the car as she jogged in Portugal.
McColgan, from Dundee, will compete in the 3000m steeplechase on Saturday morning. She is hoping to emulate the achievements of her mother, who won a silver medal in the 10,000m at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
She tweeted: “Just got hit by a car on my run! Luckily didn’t get hurt as she clipped the bottom of my legs and I landed on the bonnet – stupid lady driver!”
Her mother later said her daughter was a “lucky lady” after she suffered only a “stiff back” in the collision.
A Team GB spokeswoman said yesterday: “She has been declared fit to travel into the village today. It is not foreseen that the incident will threaten her competing at the Games.”
