Games nod for Saudi females

Saudi Arabian women will be allowed to compete in the Olympics for the first time, according to reports.

The Saudi embassy in London said in a statement that the country’s Olympic Committee will “oversee participation of women athletes who can qualify”.

It follows speculation that the entire Saudi team could be disqualified from taking part because of gender discrimination.

However, with the London Games now just weeks away, the only female competitor at Olympic standard is showjumper Dalma Rushdi Malhas.
