Everest team prepares for big challenge

The Walking with the Wounded expedition team arrived at Mount Everest base camp yesterday after a ten-day hike through the Himalayas.

Martin Hewitt, Captain Francis Atkinson, Captain David Wiseman, Private Jaco van Gass and Karl Hinett will live at the site more than three miles (5km) above sea level for the next seven weeks before their assault on the summit.

The group, who were all injured fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, will spend the time acclimatising to the altitude and conditions and training to overcome the hazards they will encounter on the world’s highest mountain.
