Bank hits back over judge’s criticism

A BANK has hit back at a High Court judge’s criticism over the collapse of the Farepak Christmas hamper business.

Halifax Bank of Scotland defended its business dealings, saying it “made entirely reasonable decisions” in connection with Farepak, after Mr Justice Peter Smith accused it of a “hardball approach” and should “seriously consider” adding to the £2 million it put into a fund for Farepak’s customers, having itself recouped £10 million. A spokesman said: “The bank will of course consider the judge’s comments but does not agree that it acted inappropriately.”
