Rail death and M8 crash delay journeys

COMMUTERS faced major rush-hour disruption yesterday following a death on a railway line and a five-car motorway collision.

The majority of trains leaving Edinburgh Haymarket faced delays yesterday morning, after a man was involved in a collision with a freight train.

British Transport Police were called to the incident, close to the station, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

All services were affected as a result, apart from the Edinburgh to Glasgow Central route.

On the M8 between Edinburgh and Glasgow, the eastbound carriageway was closed for 40 minutes near Harthill services following a collision.

The incident caused huge tailbacks, but no-one was seriously hurt.
