Man dies after car hits tree

A 23-year-old man has died after crashing his car into a tree.

He was driving on the A71 at Newmilns, East Ayrshire, at about 2:55 on Sunday morning.

The car, a Peugeot 207, appears to have lost control before coming to a halt on the road, Strathclyde Police said.

The man was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock.
