Jobs boost announced by Jet2

HOLIDAY airline Jet2 yesterday announced 60 new jobs as part of a doubling of routes from Glasgow airport to 16 this summer.

The new posts will add to around the 100 positions already created by the airline when it launched its first flights from the airport a year ago.

They include pilots, cabin crew, engineers and check-in staff, with Jet2 basing a third aircraft there from Friday.

Around 100 staff also work on Jet2’s 16 routes at Edinburgh airport.

New routes this summer from Glasgow include Barcelona, Rome and Lanzarote in the Canaries.

Managing director Ian Doubtfire said: “Both Edinburgh and Glasgow have potential for further growth, but it is a question of how much and how fast, as people are very wary of the economic climate.”

VisitScotland said the Barcelona flights also offered a potential boost for Scottish tourism as the city provided the single biggest market for Spanish travellers flying to the rest of Europe.
