Eight-year-old girl killed by bus in Johnstone

Residents were evacuated from Dundee tenement after explosion

An eight-year-old girl has died after she was hit by a bus while riding her bicycle.

The accident happened at around 10:55am today on Barclay Avenue in Elderslie, Johnstone.

Emergency services were contacted but the girl died at the scene. Police said relatives are aware.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

A spokesman for Strathclyde Police appealed for anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash to contact Sergeant Jane Taylor at the Divisional Road Policing Unit in Greenock on 01475 492537.
