EDINBURGH airport has lost out to rivals Glasgow with Lufthansa to move its Dusseldorf flights west and expand them from being summer-only to year-round from April.
The German airline said the decision was made following feedback from passengers, although it will retain its Edinburgh-Frankfurt route.
The flights will operate six days a week from 8 April and daily from 24 June. Glasgow City Council leader Gordon
Matheson said: “Germany represents the largest international market for Glasgow with more than 71,000 trips made each year by German visitors, who generate more than £19 million for the local economy.”
A spokesman for Edinburgh airport said: “We can’t understand the logic behind this move and believe that retaining the route at Edinburgh would have better served passengers.”
