Crashed car ends in tenement basement

A CAR ended up in the basement of a city tenement building after an accident on Boxing Day.

The vehicle and its 21-year-old woman driver ended up at the foot of a property on Chester Street in Edinburgh after an incident involving a taxi.

The taxi driver, a man in his 60s, was hurt and treated at the scene and both he, the other driver and the two female passengers of the taxi, aged 40 and 11, were taken by ambulance to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said: “There was a road traffic accident involving a car and a taxi at 10pm.

“No-one was trapped but
the driver of the taxi, a man in his early 60s, had slight leg injuries. The two female passengers of the taxi were also casualties.”
