Conon Bridge rail station set to reopen in the Highlands

An OLD village railway station in the Highlands, which has been closed to passengers for over 50 years, is set to be reopened to avoid potential travel chaos. Highland Council hopes the closed-down Conon Bridge station can be revamped and reopened before roadworks start on the Kessock Bridge near Inverness in 2013.

The local authority is contributing £100,000 towards the £850,000 it will cost to get station back into use. Highland has already given £100,000 towards upgrading the car park.

The project also involves Transport Scotland and Network Rail.

Resurfacing of the Kessock Bridge will take until June 2014.

A working station at Conon Bridge in Ross-shire could ease disruption caused by the roadworks to commuters travelling to Inverness from other parts of the Highlands.
