School sports: Royal High enjoy ‘double double’
TENNIS: Last year, the Royal High School won both the boys’ and girls Secondary Schools Tennis Team Championships – and they have done it again.
This year’s line-ups were Ross Clarke, Scott Duncan, Reuben Henry and Euan McIntosh for the boys and Claire Duncan, Claudia Henry, Millie Stretton and Hannah Watson for the girls.
St George’s School in Edinburgh was the venue for the semi-finals and finals, and both Royal High teams swept past Hutchesons’ Grammar School in the penultimate stage. The boys won 6-0 and the girls had a closer 4-2 winning margin.
In the final, the boys beat the High School of Glasgow 5-1 and the girls defeated Beaconhurst School 4-2.
It was the first time in the event’s 50-year history the same school had made it two wins in a row in both events – could it be the hat-trick in 2013?
