Andy and Jamie Murray through in Japan Open

ANDY and Jamie Murray recovered from losing the first set to win their doubles clash with Eric Butorac and Jarkko Nieminen at the Japan Open in Tokyo.

US Open champion Andy Murray was playing alongside his brother for the first time since the Olympics and they lost the first set 7-5.

The duo fought back to take the second 6-3, however, setting up a champions tie-break which they won 10-4.

Andy Murray is back in singles action at the tournament today when he takes on Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka in the quarter-finals.

Former winner Tomas Berdych comfortably beat Colombia’s Alejandro Falla 6-3, 7-5 to also reach the quarters.

Czech Berdych, who won the Japan Open in 2008, blasted nine aces as he strolled to his 50th win of the year. “I served well and took my chances,” said the second seed after moving another step closer to qualifying for the season-ending World Tour Finals.

“I’m not there yet,” added the world No 6, referring to next month’s eight-man London shoot-out. “I need to keep playing well and stick to my tennis.”

Berdych will play Japan’s Kei Nishikori in the last eight of the $1.2 million hardcourt event. Eighth seed Nishikori hit back in style after dropping the first set to record a 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 victory over Spain’s Tommy Robredo.

Janko Tipsarevic, Milos Raonic, Marcos Baghdatis and Dmitry Tursunov also progressed.
