Changing Room Chat: Age shall not weary his giving

A SCOTTISH rugby supporter, who, each year, donates his age in pounds to Poppyscotland made his annual donation on Remembrance Sunday before Scotland’s match with New Zealand – with a deliberate alteration.

Dave Dakers started the gesture when he turned 50 in 2001 as the weekend coincides with his birthday on 13 November. But, this year, as he turned 61, he went out his way to avoid a ‘devilish’ running tally of £666 by donating £62 instead. “What is more fitting than giving on behalf of those who made it possible for me to reach this age,” said Dakers, who is pictured above presenting a cheque to Andy Corbett, an ex-Royal Highland Fusilier and representative of Poppyscotland, at the field of remembrance beside the Scott Monument in Edinburgh.
