Boroughmuir 27 - 7 Aberdeen Grammar: Crombie spurs ’Muir to comeback win

Boroughmuir recovered from a poor first 20 minutes to post their first win since the league split.

Losses to Currie and Gala since the turn of the year had left ’Muir cut adrift in the top eight, but they are now just four points behind Aberdeen Grammar in seventh after a bonus point win over the Rubislaw outfit.

Boroughmuir were playing a home match at Meggetland for the first time since 26 November, but it was the visitors who took an early lead when Erland Oag came in off his wing and scored to the left of the posts. Stand-off Rob Aloe added the extras.

For most of the first quarter Grammar were on top but could not add to their seven-point advantage, allowing hooker Sean Crombie, as so often this season, to kick-start ’Muir’s response.

The ex-Edinburgh man, playing against his former club, burrowed over for a try after 24 minutes to add to an already healthy tally this term. The score galvanised his team-mates and, five minutes later, captain Malcolm Clapperton added a second try and, with Ally Warnock converting, they led 12-7.

Young lock Stuart Smith was yellow-carded for Grammar just before the break and, as he was returning, ’Muir went 17-7 up in the 48th minute through a second Crombie try.

Muir’s fourth came eight minutes from time, No 8 Iain Moody bursting over from the base of a scrum. Warnock added the conversion and a late penalty as the points stayed in Edinburgh.
