Josh Brookes topped the practice times at Oulton Park yesterday as he looks to get his British Superbike Championship season back on track after his Knockhill disappointment.

The 29-year-old Tyco Suzuki rider had not been satisfied with his two fourth places in Scotland last time out as he lost the lead of the championship to Swan Yamaha’s Tommy Hill, and had been confident of returning to the podium in Cheshire.

And after being edged out by reigning champion Hill in the dying moments of the morning session, the Australian hit back to lead the second session with the fastest lap of the day at a wet and windy Oulton Park.

Brookes was locked in a battle for top spot, but his time of one minute 48.494 seconds was enough to give him the edge.
