Schools hockey: Watsonians lift Scottish Cup for first time

HOCKEY: With a number of school international players in the line-up, Watsonians marked a great season with a first victory in the Under-18 Scottish Cup.

In a close final at Mary Erskine’s playing fields, Watsonians defeated Cala Edinburgh by 1-0, the goal coming from Kelso High School’s Scottish Under-16 cap, Gina Ramsay.

The George Watson’s College Scottish Under-16 pair of Catriona McLellan and Waverley Miller were terrific in defence for the new champions, while captain Kirsten Peters, a Scottish Under-18 squad member from George Watson’s College, was also in outstanding form.

Kelso High’s Claire Hill and Lucy Ramsay (Gina’s twin) were the other Scottish Under-16 players in the winning line-up, while Cala Edinburgh included Under-16s Millie Brown (Fettes College), Shona Roson (Firhill High School) and Kerry Anne Hastings (Mary Erskine’s School) plus Amber McNeil (George Heriot’s School) from the Scottish Under-18s.
