Curling: Scots looking to go one better against Canada

Scotland’s Tom Brewster and his team of Michael Goodfellow, Scott Andrews and Greg Drummond go on to the ice today at the World Men’s Curling Championship in Basel, Switzerland to play Canada’s Gregg Norman for a place in tomorrow’s final.

These two teams topped the rankings at the end of this week’s round-robin play and now go into curling’s Page Play-off system, with, as overall leaders, Canada having last stone advantage. The winner of this Page one versus two encounter goes straight into tomorrow’s final while the loser has another chance to get there this evening by playing in the sole semi-final against the winner of the other Page play-off game between Norway and either New Zealand or Sweden.

This is a repeat scenario for the Scottish team from last year when they finished second in the round-robin, lost to Canada in the Page game, won their semi-final and then lost again to Canada in the final and had to settle for silver. This year, they plan to go one better than that.

Every time Brewster is asked about beating Canada he always insists: “We only have to beat them once – on Sunday afternoon.”
